THE DREAM
“Some time ago I met a hedgehog. Nothing strange at all, you are probably thinking, and I cannot contradict you. Grey, a light hint of white on its quills and his face marked by a life without any real contact with the surrounding world. Light shone from his eyes. Hope and conviction, that was what could be seen. It was a pleasant encounter, nothing special, just like two old friends. But this was not the case. Our roads crossed by chance, on a sunny May afternoon. My memories are vivid in my mind, a blood red colour. The grass, full of light drops of water of the night storm, shone in the light of the sun. The sky was slowly moving away the clouds and the trees were languidly taking part in this performance, filling their lungs with spring. My eyes were looking for his. Instinctively he looked at me. The look of somebody who knows. The look of somebody who is aware of his future and is not worried about it: he knows just enough about the world to understand the right thing to do, this is the unstoppable nature of things. Only once I saw an animal try to change his natural way in an attempt to disown the laws of nature. I tried to understand his reasons but he had to move away, threatened by the foolish desire for supremacy that led that strange animal to madness. He imperceptibly closed his eyes. I understood that the time had come. I removed my claws from the branch and I began my fast descent towards this new friend. In just a few seconds our encounter came to an end. Nothing strange at all, you are probably thinking, and I cannot contradict you. “
